The economics department is headed by the Chancellor who is tasked with keeping accounts and producing transparent reports on movement expenditure. In addition to this, the Chancellor researches effective and ideologically-sound ways to make money namely through social entrepreneurship.
Synthesis is interested in business as a means to expand the funding and prowess of the movement. It also sees effective participation in the economic sphere as a feasible way for non-governmental organizations and civil society to expand their influence. A collective body of people with common goals is easy to turn into some sort financially productive initiative since the human capital is already there, all that is need is an idea and start up money. Once this is done, financial gains through social improvements can be filtered through the movement to facilitate its growth and development. Once NGOs become comfortable with the process of social entrepreneurship, the economics department will screen for corruption and coordinate business effort to get the best results.
A financially self-sufficient movement is of vital importance to the future success of Synthesis. This may see the set up of a corporate wing of the movement that is dedicated to funding the movement’s initiatives through expanding on social entrepreneurship and participating in the fully-fledged, mainstream corporate world with new paradigms of business and a unique understanding of society and how to organize it toward a common objective.
The economics branch is charged with maintaining the vision of economic self-sufficiency and new concepts of humanitarian economics which include social entrepreneurship and capitalist philanthropy that invigorate each other toward the “humanization” of economics. This humanization of economics provides the solution to age-old economic problems such as the prisoner’s dilemma and the free rider problem.
The economics department aims first to achieve economic self-sufficiency for the movement and then move on to establish a corporate sector of Synthesis while monitoring the economic status of the movement as a whole and allocating funds to other departments.
